The one big rule of detecting bucketline and dredge tailings is there is no rule.Just about Every operation was set up different ,with different process and personnel and usually these piles have been hit more than once. In calif. west of redding is the french gulch area with extensive tailing piles-worked and reworked-I had just demoed a tesoro supertraq lobo and sold it and just for kicks I took out my ancient golden sabre with a dd coil and went to the easiest most worked over area there-I got my biggest detected nugget at 26.5 dwt. in 5 minutes and laughed all the way home!!
