You said it better than I can. I suppose I have used the V/sat much longer than I did the GM-3 which is really like new. To be honest I only used the GM-3 pole and not the control box or the original coil.

As a chest mount I used the "extra" pole for the Sierra Max. Nearly wore it out; cracked the mounting lug--- my carelessness as I was roughing it too much--- and sent it in for out of warranty repair. They either replaced the entire outer coil top and bottom or sent a new coil. It only cost me about $45 for the repair.

I'm also on my second DD coil. I admit to being hard on coils but it has paid off as I've found some nice gold in the brush and around the rocks.

I like the second elliptical DD as I can (within reason) push it under the creosote in the Mohave or sagebrush in western Nevada Basin Range. However, other hunters are now working the brush and it is harder to find overlooked areas.

In one area of western Nevada the shallow sides--- berm--- of a gravel road cut were especially effective. It is worthwhile to follow any equipment working on a haulage road--- such as repairing a washout--- below an active mine(Off the subject but years ago several of us used black-lamps and recovered scheelite lost over the years by overloaded dumptrucks on the first bad stretch of road. The drivers were paid by the ton and not by the trip and loaded heavy.)

Getting back to searchcoils: Actually, other than being a little too large for tight work the stock Goldmaster 10-inch elliptical concentric does a great job with small flakes. I wonder how small the specks that can be recovered with the smaller accessory coil could be? Some old-timer drywash areas could be loaded with trash.
