Subject: "Headphone Wars"

On another site there is currently a "headphone war" going on. In short, people are taking stands on which headphones are better than others, and the opinions vary from the factual to the fanciful. What is really incredible is that MOST of the headphones involved are nothing more than re-labelled private-issue versions of the SAME headphone!!! For the record, the top dozen (or so) headphones under consideration are variations of THREE standard-issue headphones: Koss TD-80, Pyramid HP-30, and Bilsom. The Bilsom private-labels sell for $29.95 to $119.95, the private label version of the Pyramid HP-30 sell from $14.95 to $135.95, and the TD-80 variations sell from $49.95 to $119.95. Gimme a break! Such wonderful mark-up! And such incredible profit margin! In fact, I am considering having Koss private-label the $49.95 TD-80 (otherwise known as the Kellyco Accusound Gold, listed for $119.95, and "discounted" by the K-word folks for a mere $89.95) for me, and call it the "James McCulloch Signature Mac's Mega Blasters" and retail them for $149.95. (I mean, hey, isn't it true that the higher the price, the better it is???) Dealer cost will only be $50.00 each, so think of it, boys and girls, you can make a $100.00 profit per headphone! Too cool! But you better get your orders in now; I gotta commit to ordering 240 per month for a year to cinch the contract!! OK, seriously, I'm not going to do that; I am just irritated at a couple of the dealers at the Gold Shows who are selling lower-performance, private-label headphones for MUCH more than the same headphones cost without the private labels. Such a deal..... HH Jim
