Howdy Steve,

I have been using mine since shortly after Coiltek put the set up on the market and have had no problems as of yet. My 2100 runs very smooth and the audio circuit has a noticeable boost and this attributes, I think to folks feeling they are getting more depth. If you can hear what your machine is telling you better in a since you are actually getting better depth.

The troubles I have heard about are mainly the failure of the battery itself which is easily fixed by carrying a spare. In a couple other cases the regulator actually burned up inside. I have not actually seen this, but the friends that have told me of the problems would not lie and are still actually using the new unit they received from Coiltek.

So this is not by any means a cheep shot at Coiltek and I use their amp and coils also. I am simply curious as to how extensive these problems are or if they are indeed as I suspect isolated.

In other words I have not seen yet any actual damage done to the SD itself and I would think or hope that the regulator even when having problems would not allow a voltage spike over the 7.3 volt limit to reach the detector itself. I am sure Coiltek built it not to allow such a problem.

So with all that in mind I am off to the desert for the weekend to do some nugget hunting still happily using my 12 volt battery and regulator.

Take care...Bill S.
