that if a fellow wants to get into gold detecting he must look hard for a good used unit(no small task) or shell out 600 dollars or more on a new machine. I think if Fisher upgraded the GBI as stated by Jim, then they may have wound up with a unit that may outperform their GB2 in many situations at a lower price. Clearly, they would not want THAT to happen! :>)The market, I believe, could support a low priced unit for both the newbie and the guy who wants a spare unit that is capable too. I have no plans for selling my trusty GBI which found me some gold on my last outing!
