I hope you'll do some follow-ups on this after the thaw. And great comment about "increasing negative numbers". Sounds like someone I know's checkbook balance.... Still, I'm like you, and have always preferred a threshold-based gold detector. Silent-search is okay for coin detecting, but when you get into serious "ground information", I like to know what's going on under the coil. Just don't like the idea of the machine doing my thinking for me.
