Thanks, Joe. It certainly has been quite a year. Personal loss aside, I watch these videos of entire families being swept away in the tsunami, and I can only be all the more grateful for my own family and for all of you who have sustained me during the past year.

I see photos of bin Laden and al Zarqawi after yet another bombing and I wish I could personally blow them away. Isn't there enough grief in this world already? Haven't we seen enough death and destruction caused by natural disasters alone? I am tired of the power-hungry who use people to serve their selfish, manic needs. I was appalled by Sri Lanka's request that Israel not send aid. I am wary of Putin's personal quest for power and Kofi Annan's arrogance. It makes me want to be six years old again when I actually believed that mankind was good and that "Peace on Earth" was possible.

I guess all any of can do is to love and support those around us and hope our actions will have a ripple effect.
