G. Gordon Liddy wrote a book a while back. It was called, "This Used To Be a Free Country... When I Was Young." It was such idiocy as demonstrated by the bureacratic asses in Bunny's post of which he spoke most eloquently. A few years back, someone I know had a home on the river. He would walk out his back door and walk right to the banks of the river where he noticed a tree on his land hanging over the water. Locals enjoyed sitting in an inflated inner tube and "rafting" on the current.

Those currents took unsuspecting "tubers" dangerously close to the limb extending out over the water. He decided to do what was "safe" and intelligent for any property owner. He got out a chain saw and was on his way to cut the offending limb back so that it no longer presented a hazard to "tubers" on the river.

A local environmental nut saw him and called the cops who, in turn, called the local bureaucrats who descended on the hapless homeowner in droves. They forced him to immediately cease and desist his efforts to guard public safety and slapped him with a sizable citation and court imposed fine for having trimmed even a small (less than 1') section. He had to post bail after being hauled off in handcuffs.

Naturally, he left the extending branch untouched after that. Four days after his court date and the imposition of the fine by a judge who chastised him unmercifully and publlicly for daring to cut a limb off of a tree in his own yard, three young people who were novice "tubers" were swept into the limb by the currents in the rain swollen river.

They all drowned. Not one of the idiots who had descended upon him bothered to respond to that call.
