I am getting sick and tired of the way Senate Dumbocans have determined to act as if they had not gotten their heads handed to them in November of 2002, as if they had won control of our government instead of being told they were obstructing the business of this nation for purely political reasons.
I am also EQUALLY fed up with the Repooblicrats in the Senate who seem intent upon snatching defeat from the jaws of victory yet again. They too are ignoring the true message to the whole kit and kaboodle of them from the electorate on election day of 2002. That message was clear, simple and unmistakable... "Get off your politicizing arses and get to work on the business of our nation. Stop playing politics and GET TO WORK!"
It seems none of them are listening, but one would have to be truly brain dead not to recognize that 44 Senate Dumbocans are simply intent on obstruction. The Senate quasi-filibuster on the nomination of Miguel Estrada to a seat on the Washington Court of Appeals is a case in point.
Repoobs continue to stupidly allow those obstructors to stage a filibuster that isn't a real filibuster. Bill Frist, the new Repoob Senate Majority Leader, needs to invoke the actual rules of the Senate and tell the Dumbos that they are welcome to filibuster, but they have to do it the old fashioned way - as a real filibuster. That means round-the-clock presence in the well of the Senate with something being said 24-hours a day.
The last time that happened, Strom Thurmond lasted slightly over 24-hours when he tried to block passage of the Civil Rights Act being considered. He failed, as he arguably should have, and so will the current crop of jerks when they are forced to follow the rules as they exist.
Daschle is no longer running the show and cannot impose "for our benefit only" rules changes - what I call political Calvin Ball - designed entirely to throttle any effective Senate action that might be contrary to the desires of this core group of politically partisan obstructionists.
Last night, Partick Leahy, the Dumbocan Senator from Vermont was on all of the news channels explaining why it is essential for Dumbocans to refuse to permit the full Senate to have the Constitutionally mandated up-or-down vote on Estrada's nomination. They know that there are already more than enough votes to guarantee ratification of his nomination in such a vote under the rules of the Senate. Leahy moved his mouth, but it was the words of Tom Daschle that came from his lips.
Leahy stated the opposition to Estrada's nomination and the nominations of other Bush nominees is a part of a long history of such efforts in the Senate that he has long supported as "a matter of priniciple." Let's examine his long support of this "matter of principle."
"I have stated over and over on this floor that I would...object and fight against any filibuster on a judge, whether it is somebody I opposed or supported.... If we don't like somebody the president nominates, vote him or her up or down. But don't hold him in unconscionable limbo, because in doing that, the minority of senators really shame all senators."
Those are the exact words of Sen. Patrick Leahy, Vermont Democrat, back in 1998 when Bill Clinton was President and a group of Senate Repoobs threatened to filibuster to block appointment of a Clinton nominee. They decided against doing that and the nominee was given a straight up-and-down vote on the nominee.
This is a perfect example of what I mean when I talk about "sliding scale morality." Leahy lied this week or he lied in 1998. It is obvious that one of those statements is false, for both cannot be true. That is simple logic.
Under the rudderless ship of moral codes proposed for, and imposed, on our people and society by the Dumbocan party and their liberal wing over the past 50 - 60 years, there is no right or wrong, no black or white. Everything is based on the needs and desires of the the moment. All matters of morality and ethics are subjective decisions.
Estrada received the highest possible rating from the ABA when he was nominated. That support remains unchallenged. Estrada went before the Senate Judiciary Committe TWICE. When Daschle held sway, Dumbos on that committee grilled Estrada mercilessly, demanding he take positions THEY DEMAND he hold on matters that may come before him once he assumes his seat on the court. Estrada demonstrated a perfect understanding of the role of a judge... to completely and totally set aside all preconceived personal opinions and dispassionately examine every issue that comes before him with unjaundiced eyes and mind and apply the law to the case.
That angered the Dumbocans who demand an undying pledge from all judicial nominees to maintain their desired judicial legislative bloodless coup of the government of this nation, despite their rejection by the electorate. He went before the committee again when the Repoobs took over control and President George W. Bush resubmitted his nomination to the Senate following the November, 2002 elections.
Estrada maintained his principled stand once again and refused to speculate how he would rule on ANY matter prior to being presented all the facts and legal briefs and opinions in each case. That's what judges are SUPPOSED to do. That is a prerequisite of the job description! The sour-grapes-because-we-lost Dumbocans reacted in outrage and demanded that his private legal opinions provided in a prior position to a government agency be made public. There is absolutely NO precedence for such action and every good legal and logical reason on earth why it should not be done. Even if those opinions were to be in line with their desired stance, they must remain private legal advice to a client - in this case, an agency of the United States government. That is basic Law 101 and a long held principle of law. These Dumbo obstructors are mostly attorneys and they know it.
Now Senate Dumbocans want Estrada to go back before that committee, or another one, once again for more antagonistic grilling and hate-filled character assassination. This is in direct contradiction to Senate rules, but once again, Dumbocans, in general, and liberals, in particular, want to play Calvin Ball with this matter and anything that they oppose.
For those who don't remember, Calvin Ball was a game played by the hero of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbs. There were supposedly some basic rules for the game, but each layer got to change the rules in any way he wished that was to his benefit. In short, it was anarchy with a score card.
After several Dumbocan Senators returned home for the recent Presidents' Day break and got an earful from their constituents, several of them decided to break with their Dumbocan leaders and announced their support of Estrada's nomination. It's time to tell all the remaining obstructors to knock it off. People from many states read and post here. I suggest that, if your State's Senator(s) are a part of the obstructors, you contact them and let them know in no uncertain terms that there is yet another election for one-third of the Senate in 2004 and you have a long memory. They may not personally be vulnerable, but their leadership is.
Politicians lie as a normal way of life. That is a given on which Z-dr and I agree. I also believe that they are all cowards and the one thing they fear most is loss of an election... especially their own! Once they learn that going along with Daschle and his thugs is possibly going to cost him or her his or her seat, he or she will normally develop a case of backbone quite suddenly. It happened with three Dumbo Senators after the recent break. It can happen again, if WE stand up and force them to play by the rules. They must allow Estrada's nomination to come to a floor vote, as they took an oath of office to do.
This is where I diverge from those who, like Z-dr, agree with me that all politicians lie and are self-absorbed cowards. I know for a fact and from experience that pressure properly applied to these cretins forces them to change their ways and then lie as to how they supported that position all along. The important part is to get them to change and realize they will lie about it. So what? At least we get the business of the nation done. We just need to remember that lying the next time we step into a voting booth and vote to rid ourselves of such lower life forms as our elected representatives.
November of 2002 was a good start. We need to finish the job in 2004 and make certain they get the message. Then, when the Repoobs fail to understand the message, we need to do it again in 2006 and make them the targets of our outrage. It make take a few election cycles for all of them - Dumbocans and Repooblicrats alike - to get the message finally, but they will eventually get it because they are liars and cowards. They are our domestic brand of Saddam Hussein and there's only one language such people ever understand, imminent danger to their self interests.
