Queensland beauty on top of the world
18 April 2002

WE might officially be known as the Smart State, but Queenslanders are getting an international reputation for their beauty as much as brains.

Models from Queensland talent agencies have become hot property and global fashion are scouring the state for fresh faces.

Recent success stories include Australia's 2002 Miss Universe entrant Sarah Davies, Girlfriend magazine model search winner Sarah Arnold, Cleo Bachelor of the Year finalist Cliff Beasley, and Popstars musician and model James Campbell.

Brisbane also boasts 16-year-old Lea Lazarescu, who featured in the Australian Zimmerman campaign, 14-year-old Rachel Heathwood, who models for hair products label Marc Daniels, and Dolly magazine model search finalist Nakkari.

International model scout Fede Amorese, from Milan-based agency Want, has been stunned by the state's wealth of talent.

"I was very impressed by their attitude, not only their beauty," said Ms Amorese, who yesterday interviewed the stars from Dallys modelling management. "Maybe the beach lifestyle gives them a better outlook. It is my first time scouting in Queensland, but I will be sure to come back here soon."

Miss Universe entrant Sarah Davies, a second-year business student from Queensland University of Technology, will soon fly to Puerto Rico for the 2002 contest.

Davies has been given a home-town boost by designer Daniel Lightfoot, who designed a stunning lilac evening gown for her to wear.

"It's going to be very intense, but I'm just going to enjoy myself and gain some experience," she said.
