Subject: Amended Tax return possible for foreign Wife coming to US

I work for a US company and have been filing tax returns each year. However, I telecommute.... this has enabled me to live overseas for the last few years. During this time i got married, but because my wife does not have US residence she was not able to get a Social Security number. We are now in the process of returning to the US and she will have residence status soon enabling her to get a SSN#. While I know I can use her SSN# to claim her on my next year tax return, I wondering about retroactively. Can I file an amended tax return for the last two years of marriage - changing the status from single to married since I now will have her SSN# to indicate on the tax return?
