Subject: Revealing a characters identity

A character is introduced in that appears to a minor part but turns out to be something bigger later on. Should I reveal who this character really is when first introduced, for clearity sake? Or would it be better to let the reader enjoy the intended surprise and give the character a new name after his real idenity is revealed.

This a spec script situation.

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
