I'm sure many classmates and friends have loved ones affected by the storm. We have two sons and their fami-
lies who live in the area. Chris and Christie's home
is in Mandeville. They came to Amory prior to the storm
and had no idea what was left for them until yesterday
when they finally was able to return. Miraculously their
home sustained very minor roof damage and a tree fell through the back fence. There was of course debri in the
yard. They are now on their way back to Amory. Christie and the boys will be staying here until things are back to
normal. Chris, who works for United Medical, has had their
office moved to temporary headquarters in Baton Rouge. He
will return to work Tuesday.
Jay and Michelle, our youngest, live in Lucedale, about
40 miles from Biloxi. Their county sustained extensive damage. Being a game warden, he had to remain in the area
and has been involved in search and rescue, and law enforcement. Michelle has been volunteering, helping the
elderly and disabled. They sustained some damage to their home, but they can still live there. Jay says the tempers
are getting short and he has had to break up several fights
in gas lines and at the grocery stores. Fortunately, Wal-
Mart was able to open shortly after the storm passed and
were letting people in twenty at a time to purchase essentials. Water and ice are top priorities.
My heart goes out to the people who were unable to get out
but I'm sure some just elected to stay just for the experience of riding out a Category V storm. Some of them didn't make it.
