Subject: Sad week

Except for the week that my daughter, Julie, died,I can't
remember a sadder week for our family. My oldest living
daughter has been diagnosed with inoperable cancer of the
pancreas. She had first been evaluated at Tupelo, and
when te cause for her jaundice was found to be a tumor of
the head of the pancreas. She was referred to Dr. Bill
Turner at the University of Mississippi, who last Thursday
did exploratory surgery and found that the process was
inoperable. Her options at this point are few and none of them good. I was staying with my sister, Iris in V'burg
and going each day to be with Karen and Bill. Judy had to
return to Amory to be with her mother who is now living with us.

Saturday night I received a call from Donnie, my neice who
said that her husband, John Thomason had been killed in
an accident while going to an accident scene.

I'm sure that some of you know John. He was the funeral director at Fisher-Riles and county coroner.
I was able to speak to Hazel at the service but unfortu-
nantly missed Ethel and Jim Pickens. I'm sure there were others there that I did not see or did not recognize.

I know that we are all getting to the age that bad things are bound to happen, but it is hard to see our children
have bad things happen to them. We are the ones who should go first.
Dick and Judy
