I have to be upfront with you before I give you any advice, I was raised in a family who professed belief in God, but never really went to church. I believe in God and I worship Him, but in my own way. I'm not familiar with the church you are referring to, so I am offering you a totally unbiased opinion. However, I don't want to convince you to do something that you will feel uncomfortable with or regret later. So take this advice only after thinking about it for a long while.
Ok, I feel that God loves all of his children, and as long as you follow in His footsteps and abide by the Bible, you will be fine in his eyes. Many people go to the church that they were raised in simply because they feel most comortable in it. I feel that you should research a church and it's pastor/preist/rabbi...whatever just as you would a medicine that you've never heard of. Each person adds his or her own beliefs in when they talk of God and you want to be sure that you find someone who is talking of the real God when they preach.
As for the strict rules...well, my fiance's mother believes that computers are the devil, yet she asks her son to help her buy a car over the internet. However, when we see her, we get a long lecture about the use of computers and other "sins" that we are committing. I just don't understand it...
Anyway, I know that other members are going to read this and think "she's headed for hell", but this is how I feel. Sorry this is so long, and has probably left you more confused than you were when you started. Feel free to email me if you want to talk more about it.
