Subject: Introduction - New Member

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to this wonderful group. I am Maryann, mother of 2 boys, Sean, who is 10 and Jonathan, who is 18. My 10 year old has an Autism spectrum disorder. He is brilliant, wonderful, loving and expressive, and they call that a "disorder"??!! Actually, I found my way to the group through Bernie's site that she made for her son, Ariel. It has been a long journey for my family to where we are now. Sean was diagnosed at 2 1/2 yrs of age. It's taken many dedicated teachers and early intervention to allow him to thrive. My older son just moved out over the summer, and I miss him terribly, but he is spreading his wings and after all that is what we prepare them to do. I have several chronic health conditions that I am living with. I won't bore you with the details of them right now. But, I'm sure as we get to know each other, you'll hear all about the challenges I face.
Several of you have sent me emails welcoming me to the group and I'd like to thank you again for your warmth. Where there were links included, I went and visited your sites. They are all so wonderful! I don't have my website up yet, but I am working on it every day and hope to have it ready soon.
So again, thank you for your warm welcome and I look forward to getting to know you all! ~Maryann~
