He glanced over at her, and gently bit his bottom lip.
"Something good came of it, I found you, Kelpie." he
said, as they reached his room. He opened the door,
bowed slightly to her, and motioned for her to enter.
"Ah think Ah made out ookay meself." Kelpie said,
entering his room. Once there, she realized she
really didn't know what to do with herself.
Ironwarrior smiled slightly, when he saw her feeling a
little uncomfortable. "Relax, Kelpie. I will change
quickly." he said, grabbing his red clothes he had on
the day before. He looked in the mirror, and washed
his face removing all the paint. "The real me." he
whispered, looking over at her. "Nobody has seen me without my paint...in a long time."
Kelpie smiled warmly, trying to memorize his features.
"Come 'ere." She said softly, sitting down on the bed
and crooking a finger at him.
He walked over to the bed, removed his helmet, and
knelt on the floor in front of her. "What do you
think?" he asked, looking deep into her eyes. "Do not
look as mean without it, do I?"
"No, yeh don'" Kelpie replied. "But Ah like yeh this
way much better."
He smiled up at her, slowly stood up in front of her,
before sitting on the bed beside her.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled
herself toward him, sliding herself into his lap.
"Ah don' need yeh teh be mean," She said softly,
looking up at him. "Yer plenty brave as is withoot
bein' mean."
"When I was young, this was part of going to war."
Ironwarrior said, holding her in his arms. "I will
never be mean to you." he whispered, touching her
cheek softly.
"Well, Ah should hope not!" Kelpie said with mock
indignation. Then she started giggling. "Yer no' at
war, so why the paint noow?"
"I just kept putting it on, one of the few things I
have from my past." Ironwarrior replied, squinting his
eyes a little. "Misery, memories, both good and bad,
and the face paint. My past is not pretty, Kelpie. And
I would bet, going by a lot of people here. I would be
no better then a villain to them."
"Ah don' think that's true." She said, stroking the
side of his face. "My past t'aint the best neither,
and they treat me just faine."
"You do not look the way I do, when you scream, people
listen. When I do, people get scared." Ironwarrior
said, shaking his head. "I can not....will not change
how I look. But you have helped me with my anger, a
few days ago, I would have just started a fight with
the kitchen help."
"Ah wish Ah didn't have teh scream teh get people teh
listen." Kelpie admitted. "Ah'm not crazy 'bout
people thinkin' Ah'm a loudmouth, even if Ah am."
"I do not think you are, but sometimes you have to yell for people to listen. And no matter what others think of you, I like you the way you are." Ironwarrior said, before kissing her softly on the cheek. "And if anyone lips off to you, they will talk to me."
