The ruffles are under the TOP circle layers. You can use cotton material for the BOTTOM RUFFLE LAYER usually a circle but recommend using the matching organza to the top circles on the ruffles. You use a gathered circle This is the cotton material or other matching colored fabric(shorter than the top layers...Your bottom ruffle circle will be the length of your top cirlces minus the ruffle length ..be sure to remember seam allowances..you want the bottom ruffle to be the same length or just a bit shorter thant he bottom top layer of the skirt) You sew ruffles (gathered strips of fabric with the fishline hem) to that that bottom circle. Usually 3 1/2 to 4" in width. If you sew 2 rows of ruffles to the bottom ruffle circle you want to sew them seperatly. Versus gathering them and sewing them on to gether, so they don't lay into eachother. This bottom ruffle gives the the top skirt fullness. Hope this helps. I am doing a long skirt for my Major Work in Textiles and Design for High School and it is a long layered skirt and each layer/tier is flounced/ or ruffled with fishline. I know you pull/stretch the fabric as you sew on a zigzag stitch. But I need to know how to end and start the fishing line? Like do I fold the line and sew over it or what?
