This has been the biggest hindrance in me sewing my daughter's pageant dresses and I have finally figured it out. Is is alot easier and neater to do the fishing line with the serger. Let me first say I do not have a fancy serger it is a simple bottom-line Singer. What I do is adjust the settings to a rolled foot setting which is only one needle (it is in the manual and real simple). I also disengage the blade, which is a simple push in and flip up for mine. I put my fabric under the presser foot and hand turn the the needle down into the fabric. I then slide my fishing line to the right-side of the needle and lower the presser foot and go to sewing. I keep the fishing line and the edge of the fabric pulled to the right because it (fishing line) will try to slide to the opposite side of the needle and cause the fishing line to jump out of the rolled edge. But the serger basically encases the fishing line and fabric edge nice and neat. I LOVE it. I can now make my daughters dresses. I hope this helps people get over the fear of the serger and the fishing line. Have Fun
