Subject: Come Cheer at the Marathon!

It's been a long six months of training, but Marathon Day is finally here! Please consider coming out to cheer me on! Spend a beautiful fall day in the city, do some sightseeing, and watch 16,000 people run 26 miles. Here is some info about race day. I hope to see you there!

27th Marine Corps Marathon
Sunday, October 27, 2002

Start/Finish Line:

The Marine Corps Marathon starts and ends near the intersection of Rt. 110 and Marshall Drive, down the hill from the Marine Corps War Memorial, the Iwo Jima, in Arlington, Virginia.

The race begins at 8:30 a.m. (don稚 forget Daylight Savings Time).

Getting There:

Take Metro! Driving through the city with all the street closings, not to mention the family and friends of 16,000 runners, is going to be a huge hassle.

Metro will open at 6:30 a.m. on race day. The Arlington Cemetery & Rosslyn stops are closest to the Start/Finish Line. Use the Blue line from the Hyatt Regency Hotel Crystal City to Arlington Cemetery or the Orange line to the Rosslyn Metro Stop.

During the Race:

I recommend hanging out at one of the Official AIDS Marathon Cheer Stations. That way I値l know where to look for you. In particular, I値l probably need a morale boost between miles 10-20.

Here are the Official AIDS Marathon Cheer sections.

Mile 2 Near Pentagon City Mall. Cheer section on 15th Street near Water Station 1.

Mile 4 Cheer section in Pentagon South Parking Lot/Water Station 2&12/ Aid Station 1&9.

Mile 8.5 Cheer section is on N. Lynn Street in Rosslyn before the runners cross the Key Bridge.

Mile 10.5 Cheer Section is in Rock Creek Park off P Street. You can actually see the runners twice because they run in a loop.

Mile 13.1 Cheer Section is in Rock Creek Park off P Street. (Same as Mile 10.5)

Mile 15 Cheer section near Lincoln Memorial by Mile Marker 15.

Mile 18 Cheer section is at 1st Street and D Street near Capitol before Water Point 9.

Mile 21 Cheer Section by Tidal Basin on Potomac side at Mile Marker 21 past Aid Station 7.

Mile 22.1 Cheer Section at end of Tidal Basin where runners approach 14th Street Bridge by Aid Station 8.

Mile 24 Cheer section in Pentagon South Parking Lot/Water Station 2&12/ Aid Station 1&9.

The Finish Line:

I anticipate that I値l cross the finish line after 3:00 p.m.

There will be Link-Up Areas for family and friends to meet up with runners. Since I知 a Clark, I値l be in area L-1 for letters A-F.

My advice is to find a Metro stop near one of the cheer stations above. See me there, go have lunch, then take Metro to the Finish Line.

Please let me know if you plan to come out and cheer on Sunday, so that I will know to look for you! :)
