Subject: Hannah is sick :o(

3-17-02

Early Morning

I brushed another lock of Hannah's hair away from her sweaty face as she coughed again. It was 1:30 AM , and I had been up with Hannah all night.
A few minutes later, I gave Hannah another dose of Pedialyte and took her into my arms. I started singing her favorite song, and her whimpers quieted. I laid her on the bed and rubbed her back for a few minutes to make sure she was asleep. Then I climbed into my sleeping bag beside her bed and fell asleep. I woke up again around 3:00, and Hannah was coughing furiously. I realized what was happening and I got her to the bathroom just in time Hannah threw up and started to cry.
"It's okay, baby," I said, trying to comfort her. I carried Hannah down to the kitchen and made her a bottle, something I only did when she was feeling lousy.
I gave her the bottle, and she relaxed. I went and sat on the comfy sofa in the living room and rocked her back and forth, quietly humming a lullaby. I heard footsteps, and a sleepy Jordan walked into the room.
"Is she any better?" Jordan asked anxiously.
"Her coughing has gone down a bit, but she threw up and her temp is rising."
So Jordan decided to stay home and help out.
All day I sat by Hannah's side, mopping her face, ging her back rubs, and distributing doses of Pedialyte. Jordan took over housecleaning duty, and cleaned the house as best he could.
"Jordan, honey, could you come her for a moment?"
Jordan's head peeked in the doorway and I just had to laugh. He was covered head to foot with dust, his hair was a mess, and he was wearing one of my aprons and holding a duster.
"Could you take over awhile? I'm going to take a shower."
"Yeah, sure," he replied and sat on the end of Hannah's bed and started telling her stories.
In the shower, baby thoughts once again flooded my mind. Should we? Is Hannah ready? Are we ready? Will we have enough time to spend with the kids? I had asked myself these questions a thousand times. I suddenly knew the answer. Yes. I knew we were all ready, and we have enough love to give.

Love,
Holly
