She hesitated, then realised that hesitating simply made her look more suspicious. A lie would not work this time. There was no time to make up something that sounded plausible. "I'm sorry, but I can't tell you. I made an oath, please don't ask me to break it. I can't go against my word." There. She hadn't actually said what the promise was, or who she had made it to. Knowing perfectly well that it wasn't actually the case, she tried to reassure herself that it wasn't really a lie.
