When Coal and Clair reach the site of comotion, it's fairly obvious that whatever startled the birds isn't going anywhere fast. In a cirle around the creature is a lot of blasted dirt as though whatever it is just burst from the ground. Seven large fern-like leaves are spreading out from the source of the hole.
