The hole is atop a tunnel. Down both ends there is slight darkness, but to the north there are sounds unlike anything ever heard before. It sounds almost melodic, or like running water. A wind comes from that direction moving some of the sand that fell into the hole. It picks up and subsides, like something breathing. In one hard blow, all the sand sparkles and-rather than being blown away-simply disapears.
