When you enter the clearing you find only a small cub who hisses at you when you enter. They appear to be lost but it is clear that they were with their mother long enough for them to have learened to dislike horses. Chrestomanci, knowing that this was not the cougars lair continues to follow you and sson emerges into the clearing where you can see him.
