Tradition of good luck......
In front of the three barns is an old stump and upon that stumps hangs a rusted snaffle bit. The mouthpiece doesn't shine like it used to and the rings hang limply from the thin wire that supports it.
This is known as The Ol' Snaffle. As it's name suggests, its a snaffle bit and its old. But it is more than just a decoration. Many many years ago, this snaffle belonged to the most famous Australian racehorse of all time - Phar Lap. This very bit came off his bridle. It has been believed to bring good luck to anyone who touches it.
Touch it before you ride, touch it before you go to a competition...but one things for sure...its a tradition here at Mayfair!!
