Subject: Laundry Soap Recipe

Homemade Laundry Soap

Bar of Ivory Soap (plain, pure soap, no fragrance, etc.)I also use the bar laundry soap found in the grocery store in the detergent section for heavy soiled clothes.
1 Cup Arm and Hammer Washing Soda (NOT baking soda)

Use an old hand grater and grate the bar soap. Put in large fine mesh wire strainer or tie in cheese cloth.

Fill a large bucket or container with very hot tap water. (I use a 3 gallon
bucket leftover from dishwashing detergent). Put the grated soap in the water and let dissolve. It will dissolve very fast if you run the hot water over the soap as you fill up the bucket. Then
(DO NOT reverse this order)

add 1 cup of Washing Soda and stir.

As this cools it will
turn into a bucket full of white gelatinous soap (thickness depends on
size of bucket used).

I use an old soup ladle and use two for a large load.
This bucket of soap does a lot of laundry and more soap is just 15
minutes away. I buy the Ivory in bulk and the Washing Soda is found
near the Borax type products in the grocery store. Washing Soda is made
by Arm and Hammer and the box looks like a big box of baking soda (but
is NOT the same thing!). Since I use this soap all the time I buy the washing soda from a pool supply company. It is very cheap.
In a pinch I go ahead and use this before it's
cooled as a liquid..... works fine. The laundry soap doesn't suds up but it works great. It will take a wash or two before you will see improvement in your clothes as the chemical soap residue from the store bought soap will have to be washed out of the clothes.
