You can hook up a hand held GPS to the 981. But with The 987 say I find a brush pile 90 ft to the left of the boat. And its 40ft behind the boat as I have passed it that much. I can scroll over to it and save a way point on it or if there is in crappie fishing 5 or 6 stake beds.
I can save a way point on each bed and then go fish them. I don't know if you can do that with the 981 or not.
Also with the side imaging you have to run in a straight line for it to work right. So if its on the Trolling motor and you turn the motor its not going to show right,.
I have mine mounted on the console and can turn it round and watch it and the front one also.
Also Humminbird is coming out with a 700 something with side imaging also. And the new 987 will be a 997 I think that is what they will call it. The smaller one should be out in a day or so and the other one around Feb.
