Got a 15 lb and a 10 lb striper's and lost a nice one. The 15 lb fish had three swarming it that was bigger then it was.
Drifting 12" shad on 3ft leaders with off a 3 way swivel and 12" dropper to the 3 oz sinker.
Would have caught a lot of nice fish. But they cut the boils off at 7pm. And that was it they scattered.

Sounds like you did ok. Did you eat the fish?
I saw some guides fishing the boils when I was in TN.
They wasn't using any led. If they were using led it was a small piece.

Brought one of them home. Will put it on the smoker tomorrow.
Now that would be the first time for me. If the boils were on they would have lead on there also. And around 2 oz or better.

Pete, The guide I was watching wasn't using any led. He would throw out and let the shad drift with the water. Looked like he was free lining. Looked like the current was taking the shad down. I guess he was fishing for the stripers that come to the top, making his bait look natural. I didn't see him catch anything. But I just watched him on 2 drifts.

And Hoot it sounds more like someone that did not fish there.
Not to say that will not work. but will not catch them like getting down where the bait is.

Now if they cut the boils off. That works. but when the boils are running, Most of them are down where all the bait is.
But then again like every other fish. you never know where there going to be.
I am in no way a fisherman for them. but can and do catch them. But may just learn a lot more about them. Like catching the big boys that I know are there. And have seen some chasing minnows and come out of the water. I'm talking hogs.. 30+ lb striper's feeding and not only one but 100 at a time.
Now that was and is fun. Top water and hang on. I have had them rip out the hooks from a spook.
Next is planer boards and see just how big of a fish I can come up with. LOL

i have seen those large schools of rocks feeding on watts bar. looks like the lake exploded but have never gotten close enough to cast to them. i can take off towards a feeding school and before i get there there is nothing but herons picking up the scraps. sometimes they will break again several hundred yards away.

Frank here theres a few good spots ( Gravel bars and gravel points) that we can be sure to catch a few on. All that I do is idle and let them work toward me. Then take the trolling motor and work them/
Great fun and you catch a 4 or 5 . And your arms are dead. LOL
