Me: well i work 9-5 but if you let me know when you're free i can arrange to be at home
Engineer: well we don't work after 5
Me: that's okay i can be at home in the day. when can you come?
Engineer: I'll see if someone can come round today, after 5...

Gah! Oh well, it'll worth it to have hot water and central heating working again.
