WETM is the number one station in a two station market, but it's not a good place to work. Its good points, they have a live truck and a nice building, but that's about it. They used to be owned by Smith Broadcasting, but were sold to Ackerley over a year ago. Ackerley spent themselves into financial trouble and are currently being bought by Clear Channel. Clear Channel was just interested in a few radio stations and is trying to sell the TV stations they aquired.
WETM has just gone through with a series of firings. It's the first time general manager jim berman has held that position, and he's making a lot of mistakes. He's fired about a half dozen people in the past six months. He's aquired the nickname hatchet jim. The people he fired ranged from a janitor to the news director. What's left is an environment where the hard workers are overworked, and the lazy get away with doing nothing. A good word to describe the work place is incompitant. The people with the experience have left or were fired, leaving nobody to learn from.
WETM, a once dominant #1, now has falling ratings. It's
compitition's ratings have never been better.
It used to be a good place to work. Fun people, plenty of people to learn from, not anymore.
Avoid this staion at all costs.
