Subject: What happens after the abortation?

Baby Body Parts Trade is Big Business
By Penna Dexter

Have you ever wondered why advocates of legalized abortion cling to the partial birth abortion procedure even though they agree it's gruesome and insist it's relatively rare? After all, in state after state, partial birth abortion bans have been adamantly opposed by pro-abortion groups, and in most cases, overturned by the courts. Many pro-life leaders have been saying for years that those who want to keep abortion legal fear that a ban on partial birth abortions will just be the first to fall in a row of dominoes as state legislatures and the U.S. Congress begin to call into question other abortion procedures.

This certainly explains the actions of many pro-abortion activists. But what about the medical community? Why is there so little resistance to partial birth abortion among health care professionals who, in any other circumstance, would try to prevent a breach delivery, which is exactly what a partial birth abortion requires? Mark Crutcher, President of the Denton, Texas-based pro-life group, Life Dynamics, has uncovered a plausible explanation for the widespread defense of this late term abortion technique that is only inches away from infanticide. In Mr.Crutcher's interview on Point of View, he unveiled hard evidence that the freshly-aborted body parts of babies are being transferred to researchers in a deal that barely squeezes through a legal loophole prohibiting the sale of body parts. This “deal” is extremely lucrative for everyone concerned…that is, except for the mother and, of course, the baby.

It's Legal…Or Is It?
Here's how the “deal” works: A “body parts company” pays an abortion clinic a “site fee” for the privilege of granting one or more of its employees “space” within the clinic. The “body parts employee” thus has access to the babies' parts immediately following abortion procedures. The employee can then chop, freeze and ship the parts…or even whole fetuses, to doctors, academic institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and even the National Institutes of Health. The body parts company can say it has not paid the abortionist for the parts…there has simply been a fee for the rental of space. Then the company “donates” the parts to researchers…..no sale is involved. But the body parts company charges the recipient for the cost of “retrieving” the parts. This “retrieval fee” is currently allowed by federal law.

Life Dynamics has identified two of these middlemen as the Anotomic Gift Foundation (AGF), headquartered in Laurel, Maryland, and Opening Lines, which, due to negative publicity, was recently forced to move out of it's center of operations in West Frankfort, Illinois. Mark Crutcher provided Point of View with copies of order forms, or protocols, which specify the body part or parts desired and the speed at which the dissection must occur—for instance, “to be removed from the cadaver within 10 minutes”. The protocols also provide instructions on whether abnormalities are permitted, the conditions under which the body part will be shipped—wet or dry ice, and the method of overnight shipment, usually, Federal Express, U.P.S., Airborne, or an independent courier. Mr. Crutcher's documentaqtion also includes copies of “price lists” for baby parts, and a brochure from Opening Lines advertising “FRESH FETAL TISSUE harvested and shipped to your specifications..where and when you need it!” Another brochure directs abortionists to “Turn your patient's decision into something wonderful”.

“That's Not In My Contract”
Mark Crutcher has performed extensive verication of his evidence. But he didn't go looking for it in the first place. In 1997 a “body parts employee” who calls herself Kelly to protect her true identity, contacted Life Dynamics. She worked in a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, but was part of a team paid by AGF to “dissect and procure fetal tissue for high-quality sales.”

In a short video, produced by Life Dynamics, Kelly, with her back to the camera, her voice electronically modified, and wearing a wig, described her gruesome profession.

"We would get a generated list each day to tell us what tissue researchers, pharmaceutical companies, and universities were looking for. Then we would examine the patient charts. . . We were looking for eyes, livers, brains, thymuses, cardiac blood, cord blood, blood from the liver, even blood from the limbs.”
Kelly said she saw an average of 30 to 40 aborted babies a week that were of around 30 weeks gestation. When asked if the age of the fetus required by the protocol determined the type of abortion performed, she responded in the affirmative. Partial birth abortion, because it leaves the baby intact, is the procedure of choice.

Why did Kelly decide to become an informant? She says that one day at work, she noticed that a set of newly-aborted, 24-week-old twins were still moving and gasping for air. She protested. “They are moving, I don't do this. That's not in my contract.” She then watched the doctor take a bottle of sterile water and pour it into the pan containing the babies until the water covered their mouths and noses. Kelly left the room. When the babies stopped moving, she came back and performed her dissection duties. But something clicked. She took her story to Life Dynamics, stayed at her job long enough to provide the incriminating documents, and finally quit last spring.

Have We Come To This?
Research on fetal tissue is not illegal. In 1988 President Bush banned federal funding of fetal human-to-human transplants, while other fetal tissue experimentation continued unimpeded. In 1993, in his first official act as president, Bill Clinton struck down that ban. In 1993 Congress made it illegal to purchase or sell the organs of aborted babies. But companies like AGF and Opening Lines have found a way to make a lot of money by circumventing this law.

The good news is that a seed has been planted in Congress.. In November, the House approved a “Sense of Congress (H.R.350) calling for hearings on this issue. Those hearings are expected to occur early this year. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) who pushed for the resolution along with Joseph Pitts (R-PA) and Chris Smith (R-NJ) made his case on the floor of the House by reading from the Opening Lines price list: “$50 for eyes, $150 for lungs and hearts, $999 for an eight-week brain.”
