Tendrils flutter as the light shifts,
The fires above begin to cool,
The blue rises and clasps the warmth,
A breath seen in the mists of dawn,
Amidst the sheltered boughs and tangled leaves,
Dry and brittle they rustle slightly,
A creature here lies in the darkness,
Reaching far back to touch a deep knowing,
Visions, memories, feelings and love,
For one so young and hopeful,
A child it saw once and loved,
The longing is eternal,
A step falls and an eye opens,
The white fuzz pulls back then,
Revealing one that is aware yet not,
Still wrapped in its hopes yet sees,
A deer passing slowly by,
A kindred friend and so closes his eye again,
To dream and wish.
