Subject: Week 10

(Editor’s note) Let’s Rock…
Black Hills (4-5) at Honolulu (5-3-1)
key matchups:

QB Mike Perez (13 TDs/2397 yds) vs. Black Hills pass D
WR Tyrone Jones (54 rec/745 yds/2 TDs) vs. CB Jimmy Lamour
QB Michael Proctor (13 TDs/2428 yds) vs. Honolulu pass D
HB Raphael Cooper (647 yds/7 TDs) vs. LB Kareem Sears (51 Tackles)
TE Eric Alford (55 rec/665 yds/2 TDs) vs. LB Kareem Sears

prediction:

Black Hills 21, Honolulu 25

The Machine is retooling on the run. No one really figured they’d gone away, it just seemed that way earlier. We heard rumblings of a Raphael Cooper sighting last week… something like 23/106 4.6 avg, 1 TD. Nawh, vets can’t get it done like that in this league. Dude has 10 seasons of service. Figure the odds. Pasture material if I ever saw one. Mississippi found out otherwise. Hope he gets the call again this week? The Hurricanes are washing out opponents on the road like never B4. They have every right to expect to water down the Machine at home this week. 2 game win streak comes to end. Make the Call? BLK 20, HON 21.

Lincoln (2-7) at Colorado (6-3)
key matchups:

QB Craig Strickland (12 TDs/2348 yds) vs. Lincoln pass D
HB Rickey Blake (696 yds/10 TDs) vs. LB Johnny Harrison (55 Tackles)
WR Robert Garth (56 rec/743 yds/3 TDs) vs. CB Corey Stewart
WR Barry Wagner (52 rec/667 yds/2 TDs) vs. CB Darryl Hammond (1 INT)

prediction:

Lincoln 19, Colorado 26

I love this format because it points me to look at specific matchups. Here, we have QB Craig Strickland, whom we have always admired, vs the #1 rated pass defense (199.6 against pass – [#1]) in the league? Then we look at Rickey Blake and see that the Wildcats are rushing for a 6th best 108.6 rush RPG? Why would Strickland have any reason to pass… unless it were to Blake? Of course, both WR1s are down for their potential contributions. Why do we even keep stats? Yet, it all works out in the end, and actually makes some sense. In this case, Colorado is #1 rushing, and Lincoln is last against the rush. Game over. Make the call? LIN 17, COL 27.

Billings (3-5-1) at Portland (5-4)
key matchups:

WR Russell Copeland (52 rec/653 yds/3 TDs) vs. CB LeRoi Jones (2 INTs)
HB Wesley Cates (737 yds/5 TDs) vs. LB Darnell Minnieweathe (55 Tackles)

prediction:

Billings 20, Portland 25

All due respect to Billings, mother said she NO chance, NO chance (thanks, Mick) Make the Call? BIL 17, POR 28.

Fargo (6-3) at Wichita (5-4)
key matchups:

QB Jay McDonagh (14 TDs/2488 yds) vs. Fargo pass D
WR Pascal Volz (49 rec/726 yds/1 TDs) vs. CB Milton Vaughn
DE Terrence Simmons (11 sacks) vs. T Troy Davis

prediction:

Fargo 20, Wichita 22

“Hey, don’t settle for walkin” (a way old Lou Reed commercial, which always brought to mind Christopher Walkin, King of New York) Wichita walks to a narrow W. Make the Call? Wichita in a cake walk, FGO 11, WCH 28.

Fort Wayne (3-6) at Louisiana (7-2)
key matchups:

HB Rayshawn Askew (737 yds/5 TDs) vs. LB Bobby Jurasin (56 Tackles)
WR Kenny Causey (57 rec/656 yds/3 TDs) vs. CB Clevan Thomas
TE Michael Montoya (54 rec/794 yds/7 TDs) vs. LB Bobby Jurasin
WR Larry Ray Willis (59 rec/745 yds/2 TDs) vs. CB Quincy Sorrell (1 INT)

prediction:

Fort Wayne 18, Louisiana 25

key matchups:

HB Rayshawn Askew (737 yds/5 TDs) vs. LB Bobby Jurasin (56 Tackles)
WR Kenny Causey (57 rec/656 yds/3 TDs) vs. CB Clevan Thomas
TE Michael Montoya (54 rec/794 yds/7 TDs) vs. LB Bobby Jurasin
WR Larry Ray Willis (59 rec/745 yds/2 TDs) vs. CB Quincy Sorrell (1 INT)

prediction:

Fort Wayne 18, Louisiana 25

No diss to the Safari, who have shown improvement this season… but we ran across this communiqué recently… “[from Vaughn Inniss, former PREMIER power RB player, now RB coach]…I have viewed in passing, the USS Rayshawn Askew, on his attempt to gain yet another FIFL rushing title… my highest commendations to Commander Askew, and his offensive line, as they attempt to once again elevate this player and this franchise to championship status…” Better late than never. The Safari will set the appropriate traps, but the Beast is powerful. Make the Call? FWS 15, LOU 32… an interesting side note: IF the FWS wins its’ next 3 games, they have a shot the 2006 play offs? Stranger things have happened.

Springfield (4-5) at Austin (6-3)
key matchups:

WR Mercury Hayes (67 rec/810 yds/6 TDs) vs. CB Dennison Robinson
QB Wilkie Perez (11 TDs/2310 yds) vs. Austin pass D
HB Brian Edmonds (701 yds/5 TDs) vs. LB Jon Eberspach (54 Tackles)

prediction:

Springfield 20, Austin 24

We are sick RE: the results of this one… a loss on the road and an attempt to regain respect on the road to a recent powerhouse AFC team? Um… err.. no Make the Call? AUS 26, SPR 25.

Mobile (1-8) at Mississippi (6-3)
key matchups:

WR Jo Jo Justice (57 rec/692 yds/4 TDs) vs. CB Richard Rodgers
TE Chinedu Achebe (51 rec/556 yds/1 TDs) vs. LB Garry Howe
WR Bernard Edwards (61 rec/817 yds/2 TDs) vs. CB Russell Parker

prediction:

Mobile 16, Mississippi 23

Mobile has an agenda… capture the 31 drat pick this season… it will be a weak draft, so get it while you can. Make the Call? MOB 14, MIS 16.

Madison (4-5) at Steel Valley (2-7)
key matchups:

WR Calvin Schexnayder (81 rec/1165 yds/6 TDs) vs. CB Mike Morris (2 INTs)

prediction:

Madison 19, Steel Valley 21

We have our doubts. Pick ‘em. (as in who cares?)

St Louis (5-4) at Dayton (6-3)
key matchups:

HB Rashaan Dumas (662 yds/7 TDs) vs. LB Ansel George (66 Tackles)
HB Glenn Vereen (618 yds/7 TDs) vs. Dayton run D (3.9 rush avg)
WR Demo Odems (42 rec/632 yds/2 TDs) vs. CB Wayne Williams

prediction:

St Louis 19, Dayton 22

Are the Renegades that good? OR are the Flyers that bad? Make the Call? Pick ‘em.
