Bird song filled his ears as he swiftly trotted through the forest. The tangy smell of sap flooded his nostrils as it oozed from the tall candlebarks. The sweet, warm smell of wattles lingered in the air beside him, reminding him of summer, as he was showered with golden spray. Each particle a shining sun which spangled his silver coat. A wombat and her family watched him from behind a tall tree, their home in a large hollow, carved from the tree's roots. He shied and snorted with fear but relaxed when he realised they posed no threat, it was the wombat's path which he had followed and he dipped his head in gratitude.

The trees began to thin and he came to an open stretch of snow grass. His hooves barely skimmed the ground as he joyfully leapt and bucked, tossing his mane, galloping faster and faster. Creamy blossom drifted through the air, like large flakes of snow, entwining in his mane and tail, soft petals caressing his back. He frolicked and capered like a foal, snatching mouthfuls of bacon-and-egg bushes, soaring over fallen trees and boulders.

Soon, the ground beneath his hooves was grainy; the mud was streaked with gold sand. He rolled vigorously, letting the rough grains massage his sore limbs. The soothing sound of lapping waves reached his ears and he plunged his muzzle into the lake, letting the icy water flow down his dry throat, revitalising him. Its glassy surface shattered as he dived in, shards of silver flying everywhere. Clouds of spray hid him from view as he thrashed around in the water, splashing and churning, jumping over bobbing waves. Froth laced his mane and tail like gossamer, bubbles weaving in the silver strands. Droplets of water perched on his whiskers like jewels. His strong, clean boned legs sliced through the crystalline water as he swam to the opposite bank. Exhausted, he staggered towards some large sand dunes, collapsing in a sandy basin. The pale gold, almost white sand was soft and comfortable. Fern like plants swayed in the slight breeze, shielding his face, green fronds tickling his hide. Tomorrow, he would find the four mares which had shared his home in Brumby Country. He would bring them here if they desired…

As his breathing grew steady and shallow, his mind wandered to Blue Eyed Angel. She would have had her foal...For the rest of the night, he dreamed about the foal. Imagining it galloping through curtains of dancing snow-white petals, splashing in the shallows of the lake, playing with the family of wombats, which resided in the forest. She would be safe here. And, when she was old enough, her mother would whisk her away, disappear with her. Become truly free. A cold wind blew and he shivered slightly but if it was from the cold, or the dream no one knew...
