Date Posted: 16:35:48 06/15/04 Tue Among the available players: SP Jose Acevedo (74/83 and 27 y/o) with two years remaining; very strong first half before getting hurt last season. More affordable than any pitchers at his ability level on the FA market. 3.56 ERA last season in 136 innings. SP Jason Schmidt (90/45 and 31 y/o) will be a FA at the end of next season. Affordable one year pickup for those of you stashing money away for a run at Eaton ;) - once again, you won't find a FA pitcher this good at this price. Career ERA of 3.65. SP Brian Tollberg (65/76) and SP Mike Sirotka (66/68) both have good pitch ratings and can fill a hole in the back of the rotation or long relief - can't find anybody cheaper ($200k each for three more years). C Yorvit Torrelba (46/63/49) is in his second year of arbitration at $300k who has a few more years of improvement ahead of him. Perfect backup who could possibly start down the road. 2B/SS Adam Kennedy (54/54/73) provides a cheap (1 mil) option for your middle infield in a year with three marquee SS and not much else on the market. FA at year's end, but I won't be giving him away. CF Mark Little (61/47/74) has a few years left on the cheap arbitration scale and can leadoff for any team looking for a cheap outfielder who will put up numbers from the bench as well. LF Jose Guillen and LF Bobby Higginson are both available for the taking very cheaply for teams looking to add bench players. CF Chris Singleton is on the market too, but won't come as cheaply. CF Michael Tucker (48/70/78) gives both power and speed, as well as stellar defense at a bargain price ($2 mil. for four years). He slipped under the radar screen last year and is a career .290 hitter with 36 HR and 134 steals. All rookie-types are available as well (other than Phillips and Catsam) but I won't take time to list them all here. I'm looking for a good starting 1B or LF, or some good bullpen arms in return.
