Date Posted: 06:25:34 07/02/04 Fri The Pirates are making way for an influx of young starting pitchers by making Jeff Weaver (68/84/88) and Andy Pettitte (73/82/63) available. Weaver is in the last year of his contract, and Pettitte is scheduled to make under $5 mil for the next three seasons. Each has a career ERA of approximately 4.50. Weaver has two pitches over 70. They won't be top-of-the-line starters, but they can bolster the middle of the rotation. I'll be looking to receive one or more of the following: A starting shortstop (not All-Star caliber, but not borderline backup quality either) A pitching prospect of some degree of potential (TINSTAAPP notwithstanding). A late first to late second round pick (say, #20-56) A decent middle infield prospect (age 22-24).
