Date Posted: 12:16:49 07/18/04 Sun Why pay $5 million for a back of rotation starter/innings-eater when you can have cheap, quality pitchers? Brian Tollberg has a career ERA under 4 for 200k a year; players who performed similarly got deals worth ten times as much in FA. Also available are Mallette and Eyre, relievers with mid-3 ERAs and great contracts. Any combination of these players can help a team that is either rebuilding or looking to contend fill a quarter of its pitching staff by spending less than a million dollars. Chris Singleton is also available - it's hard to find backup outfielders who perform like he does at 200k. Players like Santos and Crespo will get even better after spring training, so while they're available, I want something good in return for them. Second basemen are overpriced in the league, so why not add one at under half a million? I want good prospects or draft picks for these guys, but I will negotiate. Abraham Nunez has an upside, but I simply don't have room for him - I'd include him in a deal for a pick upgrade. Finally, Cueto is available, and I will listen to any reasonable offers for him. Once again, he's a cheap and good pitcher whom I have no trouble hanging onto if I can't get the deal I want. Send an IM to wilksthequaker with any offers.
