Subject: The Temptation of Winter

She curled into a ball upon the floor late that winter morning. Her eyes shut, her body motionless, she had known naught that her time was coming. Lying there whilst the pendulum swings, she spoke only a few words...

“Hath life not a shred of mercy?
The coldness I do feel to my aching bones.
I have been shut out of the world for my dreams,
And thus, my dreams hath shut me out for the world.”

The sky filled with white tears, feathers of an angel which fell relentlessly, freely, evoking some sort of jealousy within us all that we too could be so careless. Could she hear them fall? What sound would they have made? Would it have been the same as her own heart? She thought not for they were far too jovial for such an aching sound...

She pushed herself to her feet. Walking towards the window, her painful eyes washed over the white powdered land before her, murky only because the glass of the window was dull and dingy. She spoke to what she could not hear, a silent reply to a silent question...

“Your life knows not the heartache it causes.
To be left upon the stone of which man would cast out.
You fall upon that stone, trapping it in your cold bliss,
And never do you sound a word to your captive.”

The winds changed, lightly blowing to the east, the flakes of white pearls showing the way the wind would go. It lit up the wind, making it be seen for once in its invisible movement, and she watched it, her heart in tears.

The sky was a gray that only came during this time. The time of winter when nothing lives, and even a person would feel dead, caught within its clutches of cold. Trees stood outside as undead sentinels, watching, waiting, and preventing escape from this lifeless time of white. She spoke again...

“I know you’re there, out in that cold wind,
somewhere that I left myself and lost what I was.
Now, I am empty, my heart is dying, so I wait,
The decision has come and I will find you again.”

The door opened, and her figure stood amidst the endless sea of tropical winter. The snow fell before her, landing wherever it pleased, and her booted parted their union upon the ground, her shawl-covered head stopping its endless fall.

Her eyes were blinded by the wrath of the wind, carried upon it the small crystals which would pierce into your soul. She gained speed, until she was running wildly throughout the winter desert. Her heart beat furiously within her chest as she pushed herself forward through the snow, pushing, pushing, further, toward something her heart saw, but no one else could have. She finally would make it there only for it to disappear, her shaking, weary form crumpling to the frozen ground, uncaring for the immense chill it felt all about. As she caught her breath, she spoke...

“You would deny me yet I have done no wrong!
Your arms would shut me out in the darkness of the cold!
I must be daft to have thought you would return to me in such a way,
And now I am lost forever in my heart, soul, and in this world.”

She never looked back as the snow fell in upon her, and with her last breath, she repeated her words to the snow, only to add a line in the end...

“Hath life not a shred of mercy?
The coldness I do feel to my aching bones.
I have been shut out of the world for my dreams,
And thus, my dreams hath shut me out for the world........
And now you will accept me.......”
