Subject: Working Helen's horse, Fire

I tightened the fiery chestnut stallion's girth as he danced about excitedly. Helen ha ridden him a few times before with some pretty good times, but I wanted to get him flying around the track. I slipped the bridle onto Fire's elegantly sculpted head. I led him over to the track and held him in at the gate. When the gate opened, he exploded foward and I thought that he must have put out to much too soon. I took him around the first turn and then I realized that he still had energy that he hadn't put out yet. On the final stretch, I leaned foward and gave him rein. He flew foward in a wild fury. Racing over the line with a fabulous time. He wanted to go again but I held him in and dismounted carefully. I took him in the barn and put a cooler on him. I walked him around and bumped into Helen. She smiled and said, "I was watching your first ride to make sure that you really were the type of rider I wanted. And you are." I gave a sigh of relief and replied, "Yeah, well you have an really promising race horse on your hands. All we need to teach him is that he can't put out so much to start with in the long races because he will tire too soon." Helen tucked her long hair back in its ponytail and said, "I can go ahead and drive him home." I looked at her, "Sure." I waved goodbye and hopped in my truck, thinking about the promise that colt had.
