mock race with Gunsmoke and Without a Doubt

I walked to Doubt's stall and set down his racing tack next to it.I was in the colts barn getting Without a Doubt ready for the mock race I was going to do with him against Gunsmoke & my mom.I put the racing saddle & saddlepad on Doubts back and did up the girth.Then, I put on his racing bridle which had a shadow roll and his hood which had australian blinkers on it.I put a piar of galloping boots on Doubts legs and then led him out to the 1 mile exercise racetrack at Timeless Farm.my 13 y/o sister, Arianna and my dad(Alex were already standing at the track rail.When I reached the opening to the track, my dad said hello to me and gave me a leg up onto Doubt.I went into jockey position and rode Doubt onto the track.I held him back at a walk.After a couple of minutes, I saw my mom enter the track on Gunsmoke.I let Doubt trot then.20 minutes later, when me and my mom had warmed up Gunsmoke & Doubt at a walk, trot, canter and slow gallop,my dad pushed the sliding starting gates out.me and my mom got Doubt and Gunsmoke into the gates and my dad shut the gates behind the 2 horses.I felt Doubt fidget beneath me.He was all ready to run.Just then, my dad pushed the button to open the starting gates and they sprang open.I got Doubt out of the starting gate easily and rated him a bit.Doubt was a come from behind racer, so if I kept him in front of Gunsmoke, he would tire out when we reached the last furlong and wouldn't have a chance at beating Gunsmoke.Gunsmoke was the type of horse that could run wire to wire, my mom didn't have to rate him.I was using all my strength to keep Doubt from running as fast as possible.The furlongs literally flew by.Me and my mom were just racing Gunsmoke and Doubt for 1 mile, or 8 furlongs.As we passed the half mile mark, I told myself wait for it, wait for it.We reached the last turn, and I let out Doubt.I kneaded my hands on his neck and he roared forward.Somehow, Gunsmoke had some energy left and my mom got him to change gears and go even faster.Gunsmoke and my mom were a stride ahead of us.Doubt started moving up on Gunsmoke.almost slowly seeming, Doubt caught up with Gunsmoke until the 2 racehorses were neck to neck.Doubt surged ahead of Gunsmoke and beat him by a neck.we(mom and I)slowed down Doubt and Gunsmoke to a walk.We walked the 2 horses off of the track and dismounted.my mom told me "you did great out there!" I smiled at her and nodded.I patted Doubts sweaty, chestnut colored neck and led him back to the colts stable.There, I untacked him and hosed him off.Doubt drank from the hose.My mom did the same with Gunsmoke.We put the 2 colts back in there stalls and then I walked off to Mark of Honor's pasture, so I could bring him in to tack him up for my lesson.
