Subject: Working Mal's horses on the track!

Mike, my husband, & I had trailered over Mal's ten horses that I was going to give workouts today. I unloaded the horses and put them all in vacant stalls. First on the list for workouts was Celtic Diver. As I hooked him in crossties, the big dapple gray colt pranced about, ready to go. I brushed him quickly and tacked him up as fast as possible. Celtic was friendly and spirited. I led him to the starting gates. I loaded him, as Mal had wanted me to practice him on getting a good start at the gate. When the gates flew open, he gave a good start and flew foward, his energy breaking free of my grasp too soon. I had let him put out too much! We took the rest of the 4 furlong breeze I was supposed to give him in a rush blasting gallop. He was fast, but might not make it at that pace through long races. She dismounted the big thoroughbred and Mike walked up to her with her next horse, Magical Wonder, already tacked up. She took Wonder's reins and Mike cooled out Celtic and led him to the barn for a bath. I mounted the playful thoroughbred filly. I didn't work her on the track. I took her out to the hilly trail behind the track. We cantered along it keeping a steady pace, up and down hills. This would give her endurance. After she had been going for about 15 minutes, I let her walk back to the barn. I dismounted and Mike took her reins, and handed me Bay Watch. I grasped Bay Watch's reins and swung onto the huge stallion's back. I rode him onto the track and rode him into the starting gates. G2G, Continued later today!
