Fire and Poppy

Helen and Eric drove over to KDS.They got out of the SUV(witch was pulling their 4 horse 4 horse trailer).When they got to KDS Helen opened the passenger door and got out,while Eric got out on the other side.Eric opened the back of the trailer and then grabed to lead ropes.He handed a lead line to Helen and said"OK,I'll get Poppy and you get Fire" "OK!Meat you back here"Helen replied and walked off to get Fire.
In a few minutes Helen and Eric were back at the trailer with their horses.Eric was leading Popular Choice,a 2 y/o,16hh,dark bay,thoroughbred Filly and helen was leading Fire,her 3 y/o,16.3hh,red/gold chestnut,thoroughbred stallion.They both loaded their horses into the trailer and then got into the SUV.Helen was driving this time.
They were at the race track in fifteen minutes.Fire,sencing his surrounding,kicked the side of the trailer and snorted ready to go.Poppy also sencing where they were,whinnied shrilly."We're comin" said Helen luaghing"yeah hold your horses"Eric added grinning"Oh well since you are horses i geuss you don't have any horses do you"he added cheerfuly.Eric and Helen Led their horses out of the trailer and into the barn.they both clipped them into crossties and Helen stayed with rthe horses while Eric went to get their tack and grooming tools.When Eric got back(about 5 minutes later)they began to groom and tack up their horses.
When they had finished tacking up their horses they strapped on their helmets and led thier horses out to the track."We were just going to excercise them but"helen said with a mis'chievous glint in her eye"What are you calling me a fraidy-cat?"Eric said pretanding to be and look offended.Helen walked Fire into a starting box and Eric walked Poppy into on right next to it.
The starting gates banged open and the to horses burst out like two blurred bulets.They hurtled neck and neck around the track.Eric was urging Poppy on she was pulling ahead of fire,she was an entire length infront of him.They were aproching the 5 furlong mark.When Helen gave fire his head completely and pushed him on with all her might.A fiery light was in his eye,it was what had made Helen name him Fire when she bought as a foal before she lived in fantail creek.Fire put on an amazing burst of speed and pulled another length ahead of Poppy before they reached the 6 furlong mark.
Helen and Eric Brought their horses back to a walk and walked along the track to coll them off.Helen wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand and said"Poppy's Really good,you guys almost ahd me and Fire.She wasn't that fast when a rode her,maybe she needs to be competing with someone"."Phew that was somekind of race"Eric said catching his breath and then grinning.
They walked their horses back to ther barn.Both horses were covered in froth and sweat.Eric and Helen untacked and then clipped their horses into two wash racks.They bathed them and sweat scraped them.Then they put coolers on them and loaded them into the trailer.Eric got intothe drivers seat and helen hopped in the other side and they drove KDS,unloaded and turned out the horses and then went home.
