Galloping Flawless & Limitless Time

It was an early, warm summer morning. Jennifer led a gleaming black colt out onto the track and Brandon gave her a leg up. "Remember, steady gallop for the first 4 furlongs, then breeze him out the last 4." "Ok." Jenny smile down at him. She squeezed and Limitless jogged through the gap. The air was misty and the grass was still soaked in dew. Riders called to one and another, horses pounded by, grooms passed leading sweaty Thoroughbreds. Jenny loved the atmosphere of a race track. She gathered the reins and moved Limit along the rail. They circled the track at a trot and then an easy canter. The big Thoroughbred colt tugged at the reins and snorted eagerly. Jenny moved with him smoothly, holding him back. Then they passed the mile marker pole. Jenny turned him and hunched low, urging him forwards. Limitless Time erupted into a gallop with ground covering strides. They flashed around the turn and passed other horses effortlessly. Jenny kept the reins tight and tried to pace Limit. They galloped the first 4 furlongs easily and steadily, with smooth, long strides. The half mile marker pole flashed by. Jenny slapped him with her whip and squeezed. With a burst of speed Limit exploded into a faster gallop. His nostrils flared red, his eyes wide, and his gallop hard & incredibly fast, the 2 y/o surged down the homestretch, with Jenny perched on his withers, urging him faster. She kneaded her hands on his neck, pressed with her heels and slapped him with her whip. He increased speed, leaning against her reins and sweeping around the far turn. They bolted under the wire and it was another 2 furlongs before Jenny could pull the sweat soaked colt up. She was breathless. That had been exhilerating! Her mouth dropped and her eyes widened when Brandon held up their time. Then she dismounted and handed Limitless to a groom. Flawless danced and tossed her head. "Hey pretty girl," Jenny cooed to the gray filly. Brandon gave her a leg up. Jenny circled the track for warm up and then rode back to Brandon, who led them to the starting gates. Flawless walked into the #5 (out of 10) and waited calmly, ears pricked. "Good girl," Jenny patted her glossy neck. She crouched forwards, holding the reins firmly, and nodded at Brandon. Suddenly the gates slammed open and the bell rang loudly. Flawless leaped out of the gate and exploded up the track. Jenny moved her smoothly to the rail and held her there with a fast, steady clip for the first 3 furlongs. (Breezing 6). Then as they entered the 4th furlong, Jenny edged Flawless up higher along the rail. The filly was running with determined strides, her extended strides snatching up the ground as they pounded over the dirt. Jennifer bent lower and urged Flawless into a faster gallop. The filly switched leads and flew down the backstretch. At the wire she was flat out, running low and very fast. Every thing was a blur to Jenny as they flashed under the wire. She stood in the stirrups and circled the lathered filly. Then she turned her and walked back to Brandon. "Excellent!" he beamed, showing the times. Jenny grinned and jumped down. She led Flawless to the barn.
