Subject: Working with Shooting Star

Star nickered in anticipation as I tacked him up in his racing gear, after brushing him. His firy coat glistened in the sun as I walked him to the racetrack. I warmed him up with a nice trot aroune the ring, gradually moving into a canter. After he was warmed up I brought him to the starting gate. He walked calmly into the starting gate and waited. I count myself lucky to have such a good starter. He never had any fear of the gate after I coaxed him in the first time. The gate opened and he flew out. I pulled him a little, bringing him down to a steady, ground eating gallop, for the first 4 furlongs. Finally, I gave him his head, and he burst forward, his mane flying in the wind. I just leaned forward and enjoyed the ride. To mine and his regret I slowed him down to a canter after 7 furlongs ( almost a mile!) We took it slow for a bit before I cooled him down with a brisk walk. I led him back to the stable and untacked him. He had sweated only slightly and was frisky as ever! "You're crazy!" I said as he pranced in the crossties. I brushed him until he shwon once again, before bringing him back to his stall. "I can't wait to actually race on you!" I told him.
