(I sooo sympathise, with the hot flash vs cold snap, Marianne!!) I hate the way I break into a sweat, then chill, because the air is so cool, now. It's not as bad, in the summer, because I'd be sweating, anyway, and can always cool off with a spray from the hose! lol!

The Elk River Ranch (and Raccoon Refuge) is in Elkton, Maryland. The colours peak in the last week of October/first week of November, in this area. We had it a bit dry here, too, and some trees did shed a bit early. The drought did have an effect on the black walnut production -- it's a 'bumper' crop. I seem to remember reading somewhere that a tree's reaction to drought is to produce more, not fewer, nuts -- as a strategy for survival of the species (the more nuts, the more saplings, in the spring, it the idea ...). We're supposed to get down to freezing, or a bit lower, tonight. I'll be bringing the horses in after the 11 p.m. news. I try to leave them out as much as possible, as it means less work, on the stalls, in the morning!
