When my flyer was sick, a vet agreed to see him without calling in the game wardens. We are not a flyer friendly state. She needed to x-ray him so she wet a wash cloth with warm water and when the aide put him on the table on his back for the x-ray, she opened the wet cloth up and spread it over his entire body while the aide was holding him in position and then moved her hands. He was perfectly still while she took the picture. Amazing! She told me that if I needed to examine him closely for any reason, this "might" work. Nothing is for sure with these fantastic little gems of life, but if you need to look closely at the eye or trim a tooth, this might be a solution. She indicated that a lightly wet hand towel is more likely to hold him in place if you are trying to capture and return him to his cage after an escape run. Just drop a damp hand towel over the flyer and then gently pick him up. It takes a lot of stress out of the situation when you are frantic to keep the flyer from harm as it darts away from your confines. I might point out that this is a quick fix and you need to be quick when you use it, nothing last for long in a flyers life, they recover quickly from any surprises and chaos happens then. LOL As with any furry friend, they should be kept warm while they dry and this should not be a regular thing, save it for emergency tasks, they adjust quickly to things and it may lose its effectiveness if overdone.
