From Agnes: She just doesn't like it when I reach for her from behind... So I haven't been biten since. yahoo....

(Keep in mind that adult flyers nearly ALL hate to be 'pet' from ...) 'above' -- even the shadow of one's approaching hand likely sets off 'warning bells' in a flyer's psyche, as that's just how an owl would approach. My flyers, once they're 'on' me, will enjoy a nice back rub -- but that's quite a bit different from reaching for a flyer, and 'petting'. Most flyers enjoy a chin rub -- but the hand approaches from 'below', not 'above'. It's a bit like most 'prey' animals -- even horses don't like a hand raised first to their 'foreheads' -- a mistake many novice horsemen will make. They prefer the hand come from 'below' their muzzle, then brought up to their foreheads from the sides of their faces. Ahab, my bunny, will panic if I reach for him -- but will happily come and touch my offered finger, if it's low, and I let him make the move toward me, not 'the other way around'.

I'm glad that you've found the way to keep Squiggy social, Agnes. Every flyer is a bit different, and it pays to cater to some of their idiosyncrasies.
