Nancy writes: Hello everyone. Beverly, is the roof now done?

Finally! The crew began on Monday morning, and were done by Tuesday, noon. What a mess. On the 'down' side, the ceiling in the den still needs to be ripped out and replaced. On the bright side, the den is now watertight, so I was able to pick up the 36 (count 'em, 36 ...) boxes of Dupont's Real Touch Classic laminated flooring -- at 35# a box (I was exhaused, by the time I'd moved the boxes from the back of the pick-up -- and you should have seen the springs of the pu 'drop' when they loaded, from a fork lift, the pallets!), and put them in the den, until I'll be able to install (don't want to start right away, as I've got some company coming for a day or two, and need this week to straighten up the rest of the place!!!)

How are those bird babies coming?

The wrens five nestlings fledged on Thursday, the third of May, just 28 days from egg to on the wing! I've not yet done an essay on the wrens, but here's a link to an essay on another bird episode:

Cecil County Flora and Fauna -- Good news, Bad news

My flyers have mostly gone away, but I look forward to next winter when I just feel they'll return. I did have 6 out there a week ago one night and two were my "friends." I can tell the "friends" since they immediately come to the top of the cooler and stare at me asking for a peanut and take it from my hand. Last night there were two. One is living in the 'single' box home we made and comes to eat and drink each night. I put a dish of water out last week and my goodness, I thought the little feller would drown it drank for so long!! Just wanted to
update everyone.

Yup, it's been awfully dry, here, and many critters come to visit me more for the water, than the sunflower and peanuts! I had to turn the hose on, and let it run in the dusty part of the paddock, for the barn swallows to be able to make their adobe homes! I soooo hope the flyer in the 'single' box will turn out to be a gravid female, and raise pups in your garage! The others will for sure return, in the coming winter. Flyers never forget their friends! :~} Speaking of 'flyer friends', some of us will be gathering in Cape May, New Jersey, on October 26 - 28, this fall. If you can get away from Maine, you'd be most welcome! You can find more info at NFSA NE Conference

The Kentucky Derby was great!! Love to watch it and looking forward to the Preakness. My choice of horse came in 10th!!!!!! Ugh!

I like Carl Nafzger -- have, ever since watching him 'call' the race for Mrs. Genter, when her 'Unbridled' won the KD, back in '90 ... so, I was pleased to see Street Sense do so well. And, I was happy to see Hard Spun, who has some 'local' connections (trains nearby), take second.
