(No fears, Agnes. Bleach does indeed dissipate in the air ... but ...) mostly, I only use it if there is a concern about infectious bacteria (like the e.coli you mention ...). Because I know how bothersome chlorine fumes, even at the Y's pool, can be, to my eyes, I err on the side of caution, where my critters are concerned -- especially my flyers. Likewise any commercial cleaning products, many of which include ammonia. That's why I recommend a very thorough rinse, and a sun-dried airing of a cage, after a 10% bleach washing. On that subject, if doing a laundering of a flyer(s) 'pee' sheet, I personally think one should use a minimum of laundry soap, and use no softener in the rinse. I also highly recommend air drying said sheet -- but if you machine dry, avoid using a dryer 'sheet'.
